The Gazetteer for the County of Simcoe – 1872-73 shows that John and David Gunn lived on Lot 3 Concession 5 and that Donald Gunn had lot 3 Concession 4. There is no mention of Alexander on these lots. It is not known if this document relates to ownership, or to who was living on the land at the time. According to “Governor Simcoe Slept Here” page 754, the southwest quarter of lot 3 Concession 4 was registered to Ester Ross (the daughter of Alexander Gunn) and Alexander Ross in 1872 and that that the previous owner was Alexander Gunn. It also states that they had been living on the property for some time.
The County Atlas of 1881 shows that Lot 3 Concession 4 was in the possession of an Alexander Gunn and that the farm directly across from them (the south half of lot 3 concession 5) was owned by John and D. Gunn.
A Donald Gunn is shown as the owner of the north half of Lot 5 Concession 3.
The obituary notice for Donald (Aug 26, 1909) states that He was born on Lot 3 Concession 4, West Gwillimbury.
This is a photo of the farm that is now on the Southwest quarter of Lot 3 Concession 5.
